NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps has been waiting six years for a trip to the International Space Station (ISS), and her patience will soon pay off. Epps is finally getting her chance to travel to space as a crew member on SpaceX’s Crew-8 mission.
Epps was originally slated to make history as the first Black woman to live and work on the ISS in 2018, but was unexpectedly replaced by another astronaut just months before her scheduled flight. Despite the setback, Epps remained determined and focused on her goal of spaceflight.
Now, Epps will be joining NASA astronauts Kjell Lindgren and Bob Hines on SpaceX’s Crew-8 mission, which is set to launch in the spring of 2023. The crew will spend six months aboard the ISS conducting research and experiments that will advance our understanding of space and improve life on Earth.
Epps’ perseverance and dedication serve as an inspiration to aspiring astronauts around the world. After years of waiting, she is finally getting the opportunity to fulfill her dream of living and working in space.
