The state of Washington is expanding its vaccine eligibility to include those aged 60 and older starting on March 17 and those aged 16 and older starting on April 15. Governor Jay Inslee announced the news on Thursday and stated that the progression is possible due to the increasing vaccine supply in the state.
This expansion comes as Washington continues to make progress in its vaccination efforts. To date, over 2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the state. Governor Inslee emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated to protect oneself and others from the virus.
The state is also working towards providing more vaccine access to underserved communities and those disproportionately affected by the pandemic. This includes setting up mobile vaccine clinics and partnerships with community-based organizations.
Washington residents are encouraged to check for vaccine eligibility and schedule their appointments through the state’s online vaccine locator tool. Governor Inslee expressed optimism that with the continued vaccination efforts, the state can move towards a sense of normalcy and recovery from the pandemic.
