MassGOP seeks recruits to challenge complacent Democrats
BOSTON — The Massachusetts Republican Party is looking for fresh recruits to challenge what it describes as complacent Democratic incumbents in the 2022 legislative elections.
MassGOP Chair Brian Wynne said Wednesday that the party is particularly focused on recruiting candidates for state legislative races where only one major party is currently represented.
“We are eager to represent our party in every corner of the state,” Wynne said.
MassGOP Director of Candidate Recruitment Shereen Powella said the party is committed to finding candidates from diverse backgrounds to run in next year’s elections.
“We want to make sure that our Republican slate reflects the diversity of our state,” Powella said.
Currently, Republicans hold just six seats in the state Senate and 30 seats in the House of Representatives, while Democrats hold 33 seats in the Senate and 129 seats in the House.
The party is also looking to recruit candidates to challenge Democratic incumbents in races for statewide offices, including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and treasurer.
Wynne said the party is hopeful that by recruiting a strong slate of candidates, they can make significant gains in the 2022 elections.
“We believe that the people of Massachusetts are ready for a change and we are committed to providing them with a viable alternative to the status quo,” Wynne said.
