Boston Lyric Opera’s artistic director abruptly resigns
Boston Lyric Opera announced on Tuesday that its Artistic Director, Esther Nelson, has resigned from her position. Nelson has been with the company since 2008 and served as artistic director since 2012.
In a statement released by the opera company, Nelson cited personal reasons for her resignation. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunities she had during her time with the company and wished them continued success in the future.
Nelson’s departure comes as a surprise to many in the Boston arts community. Under her leadership, Boston Lyric Opera has received critical acclaim for its productions and has seen an increase in ticket sales and audience engagement.
The company has not yet announced who will take over as artistic director. In the meantime, interim leadership will be put in place to ensure the smooth operation of Boston Lyric Opera.
