The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) buses are equipped with radios and panic buttons to enhance the safety of passengers and drivers. However, a recent report from the city’s Public Safety Committee revealed that these safety features are not functioning as intended.
During a recent meeting of the committee, members expressed concerns over the ineffectiveness of the radios and panic buttons on LADOT buses. According to the report, the radios were found to be outdated and not compatible with the city’s emergency communication system. As a result, drivers have been unable to communicate with dispatch in case of emergencies.
Additionally, the panic buttons installed on the buses were also reported to be malfunctioning. Committee members noted that pressing the panic buttons did not trigger any response from authorities, leaving passengers and drivers vulnerable in dangerous situations.
In response to these findings, LADOT officials have promised to address the issues and improve the safety features on their buses. They have assured the committee that they are working to upgrade the radios and fix the panic buttons to ensure the safety of everyone on board.
With safety being a top priority for public transportation, the committee is urging LADOT to expedite the repairs and enhancements to prevent any safety risks for passengers and drivers.
