The City of San Diego has been facing challenges due to a backlog of audits for street maintenance projects, according to a recent report. The audits are meant to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used effectively and efficiently in these projects.
The backlog has been accumulating due to staffing shortages and a lack of resources within the city’s Audit & Performance Department. The backlog is currently at 97 projects, which accounting for $84.6 million in expenditures.
City officials are working to address the issue by hiring additional staff and providing more resources to the Audit & Performance Department. They are also implementing new procedures to streamline the audit process and reduce the backlog.
In response to the report, City Councilman Raul Campillo has called for a comprehensive review of the city’s audit process and for more transparency in how taxpayer dollars are being spent on street maintenance projects.
Overall, the city is committed to addressing the backlog and ensuring that audits are completed in a timely manner to prevent any further delays in critical street maintenance projects.
