The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) owes millions of dollars to taxpayers in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, but time is running out for them to claim their money.
According to a report from Fox 5 DC, the IRS has an estimated $27.3 million in undelivered refund checks that belong to nearly 29,921 taxpayers in the area. The IRS has urged taxpayers to file their 2017 tax returns by this Friday in order to claim their refunds.
Taxpayers who have moved or changed their addresses without notifying the IRS are also urged to update their contact information in order to receive their refund checks.
The IRS has stated that it is important for taxpayers to file their returns promptly in order to claim any refunds owed to them. Failure to do so by the deadline could result in the funds being forfeited.
Taxpayers in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area are encouraged to check the IRS website to see if they have unclaimed refunds waiting for them.
